CNYOS 2011 Fall Show and Sale

Each Fall the Central New York Orchid Society holds its annual show and sale in the Greater Syracuse, NY area. Many groups and individuals enter displays of plants, educational exhibits, artwork and/or photographs with orchids being their main or dominant theme.

Our 2011 Fall Show and Sale will be held at the Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville, NY on October 1st-2nd with setup on Friday September 30th. Directions to the Nature Center can be found on the B.L. Nature Center info page.

Setup will be on Friday Sept. 30th from 12 noon until 8p.m. Judging will take place on Saturday the 1st from 8a.m. to 12 noon. Judges and Clerks should meet at Beaver Lake at 8a.m. for orientation and judging will commence at 8:30a.m. The Show will be open to the public on Saturday the 1st from 12 noon to 5p.m. and Sunday the 2nd from 10a.m. to 4p.m. Takedown will commence immediately after the closing of the Show to the Public. Club members who want to enter their flowering orchids (pre-registered and properly cleaned/labeled) in the club display should contact (tba) in the Syracuse area; (tba) to the east, or Charles Ufford in the Utica area before Friday after making prior arrangements with the collector, or bring them to Beaver Lake Friday early afternoon. It is required that plants be registered well-beforehand with Iris Cohen, as she will be largely unavailable most of the week before the Show.

The Beaver Lake Nature Center is a fascinating place in its own right, so make it a destination stop for the afternoon.

We will have educational exhibits and informative displays along with many photographs and artistic works on display; we will also have handouts of cultural information and raffles of plants and other items.

The American Orchid Society judges the displays, plants and artwork/photos; AOS flower-quality (based on the AOS's standard of floral excellence), cultural and botanical awards are given in several categories, as well as club ribbon awards (also in several categories). Whole displays also receive awards, as well as 'Best Flower' and 'Best Display in Show' awards for the most deserving entries.

We will also have sales vendors who will offer many
exotic and tantalizing orchid plants/supplies that you can purchase. This year, Our vendors will be JustPat Orchids, Bloomfield Orchids, Marlow Orchids; also this year we will have Piping Rock Orchids and Robert's Flower Supply.
CNYOS Club Members will be on hand to answer your questions or talk with you about any orchid-related issues that you may have interest in. We will also be accepting new members at our show, so feel free to stop by!

Show Entry Forms

Completed entry forms for the 2011 Fall Show and Sale should be completed and filled out and then submitted by email at the latest to Iris Cohen the weekend before setup September 30th, 2011. If by mail, please submit at least a week prior to this date. Entries for displays/exhibits should be submitted at least two weeks before the show. After your registration information is submitted, Iris will complete the registration and send you a copy for your records. You must then find out who will be collecting the plants to be included in our CNYOS exhibit, or you are registering for your own exhibit, all pertinent information will be sent to you after your registration is complete. Important note: submit all plant names that could possibly be entered in the show, and when reporting for setup or submitting your plants to the person collecting plants to take to the show display (give the collector a list of deleted plants) delete the extras from your entry form. It is much easier to delete extra plant entries than it is to add them later.
Register early!
