- Plant name : Coryanthes macrantha
-
- Owner : Carol Haskell
-
- Where grown : Lighted windowsill
-
- Special notes : First flowering, with another flower
spike coming; flowers literally dripping with nectar.
- (This plant/flower is so unusual
that I'm including notes on it from Jay Pfahl's website about
Coryanthes macrantha) -
- "The Bucket Orchid or
Monkey Throat Orchid is a hot growing epiphyte found from Trinidad
to Peru in wet lowland rain forests, where it blooms on a basal,
pendant, 12" [30cm] long, bracteate, 1 to 2 flowered, racemose
inflorescence that carries a large, waxy, short lived, fragrant
flower smelling strongly of mint held well below the plant and
occuring in summer. " --- Another note is that the flowers
pictured here look nicer than the ones shown on Jay's website.
Very unusual!
