About Us

The Central New York Orchid Society was organized in 1974 to encourage the conservation, cultivation, and appreciation of orchids. We are open to anyone interested in orchids who would like to learn more about orchids including techniques for growing and displaying orchids. The society is a member of the American Orchid Society.

CNYOS holds monthly meetings from September through June, taking July and August off. We meet on the first Sunday of the month except for September and January, when holidays postpone the meeting to the second Sunday. Visitors are always welcome. Meetings are held at the recreation center of Saint Augustine’s Church, O’Brien Road, Baldwinsville, NY between Peck Road and Route 48. The building is handicapped accessible. Start time is 2pm and meetings run about 2 hours.

We have 2 auctions every year, one at our January meeting and one at our annual picnic in June. In December we have our holiday dinner. We often have speakers on topics of interest to orchid hobbyists. At most of our meetings we have a show table where members can show off their blooming orchids, and usually a raffle.

The Central New York Orchid Society has in the past sponsored a major show in the fall, sanctioned by the American Orchid Society and Orchid Digest Corporation. Awards from both national organizations may be granted, as well as show ribbons and trophies. There has not been a show for the past 3 years. We are looking for new members to help us put on our show.
